Description

The Spier Hotel is situated on the historic Spier wine farm in the heart of the Stellenbosch winelands, just 20 minutes from Cape Town International Airport. Village-style buildings, lush green lawns and spacious rooms situated next to the calming Eerste River are the defining characteristics of the 4 star Spier Hotel. Our rooms are clustered around six courtyards, with each courtyard boasting its own swimming pool. The design is reminiscent of the Bo-Kaap or Mediterranean villages where pedestrians have right of way.

Accomplishments and acclaim
Spier is committed to doing the right thing for the environment and communities, and we are renowned for our responsible tourism approach. We have been recognised by various external organisations including Fair Trade in Tourism (FTTSA) and the Wine Industry Ethical Trade Association (WIETA). In 2011, Condé Nast Traveler World Saver Award recognised Spier as the top international destination ‘Doing it All’.  We are one of 38 WWF Conservation Champions, and our cellar has FSSC 22000 certification, is Fair Trade accredited, organically certified and follows the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) criteria.

Our environmental and social initiatives are many and varied, and include ways to reduce water usage. We recycle 100% of our wastewater and over 90% of our solid waste. We support local communities through our Tree-preneur Project, which encourages people in impoverished communities to grow trees in exchange for essential goods. They serve wholesome and delicious food, fresh from the farm, that pairs perfectly with their award-winning wines. Much of the produce they use is grown on Spier; the rest is sourced from nearby farmers. They believe the natural flavour of food should speak for itself, so they serve dishes that are seasonal, uncomplicated and creative.

Accommodation

The Hotel is surrounded by historic Bo-Kaap-style buildings that have all been as meticulously nurtured as the pristine natural environment of the farm. Here, 153 rooms are clustered around 6 courtyards, each with its own pool. Spier wine farm is located in the heart of the Stellenbosch winelands, just 20 minutes from Cape Town International Airport. There is plenty of choice when planning a day or two at Spier. Guests can picnic on the lawns next to the river under shady trees, or enjoy wholesome food fresh from the farm at Eight Restaurant. Award-winning wine can be tasted with delectable treats on the banks of the dam, and there are a number of walks and tours including the River Walk, or a vineyard tour on Segways. Guests can also visit the birds of prey at Eagle Encounters and learn about conservation, or support local crafters at the Craft Market, making it a fun day out for the whole family.

The recently refurbished conferencing centre can cater for large and small conferences, business meetings, workshops, seminars and exhibitions. The conferencing facilities are located on the historic wine farm, just 40 minutes from Cape Town and 20 minutes from the airport. Spier is A Fair Trade in Tourism accredited hotel and Conference Centre focused on doing business with integrity. Spier's Conscious Conference package includes environmental and social components, supporting our sustainable business ethos.
