This year, the Gallagher Convention Centre is celebrating 30 years of exceptional service and all that it has achieved during the past three decades. Since Gallagher opened its doors in 1993, it has grown into one of South Africa’s top event destinations, with 27 venues on a 32-hectare property. To commemorate this milestone, CEO Charles Wilson and his team decided to do things a little differently and are celebrating with the gift of giving. Leniese van der Merwe, the marketing manager at Gallagher, explains, “Gallagher Convention Centre has a history of involvement in charitable endeavours. While still a private farm and home, the property often fostered vulnerable children over weekends. The property was donated to a charitable organisation after the passing of the original owners. Today, the business still endeavours to make a difference, and believes in the importance of a strong community. So, on our 30th birthday we are celebrating by giving back to the Midrand community.” Here are some of the ways Gallagher is giving back:
- New Jerusalem Children’s Home, located in President Park, Midrand, is a place of safety for vulnerable children. It was established in 2000, and Gallagher has a long-standing relationship with the home. On 2 October 2023, Gallagher celebrated its 30th birthday and gave cupcakes to the children and staff at New Jerusalem Children’s Home.
- Juno Aurora Haven is a non-profit organisation offering a place of refuge to orphaned and abandoned children. Gallagher donated money to the haven to help them in continuing to offer sanctuary to vulnerable children.
- The Midrand SPCA operates solely off public support. Gallagher also made a donation to the charity as part of its birthday celebrations.
