Blaauwberg Beach Hotel officially unveiled its new top-floor, ocean view event venue, Sand & Sea, on Thursday, 26 June 2025, with a cocktail function attended by leading figures from South Africa’s travel and tourism industry.
Situated on the hotel’s 12th floor, Sand & Sea is a fully enclosed glass-fronted venue offering panoramic views of Table Mountain, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Cape Town skyline. The grand unveiling welcomed representatives from FEDHASA, Wesgro, and the City of Cape Town, along with travel media, influencers, and event professionals.
The event was hosted by radio personality and Blouberg local, Darren “Whackhead” Simpson, and featured a glamorous red-carpet reception, a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a guided walkthrough of the new space.
General Manager Philippe Marechal described Sand & Sea as a blend of style and purpose.

The top-floor space features both a fixed and modular bar, a plating kitchen to streamline catering, and a versatile two-level layout ideal for formal ceremonies—such as weddings or product reveals—before transitioning into more social celebrations.”

In addition to Sand & Sea, guests were introduced to two other newly completed features: the chic LaBamba Pool Deck & Bar, and a professionally curated art gallery by Marco Olivier, showcasing local creative talent and open to the public, adding a cultural dimension to the hotel’s experience.

Sand & Sea forms part of a larger upgrade strategy at Blaauwberg Beach Hotel, which includes a full refurbishment of the Waves Restaurant and the addition of new rooms on the 10th and 11th floors.
All enhancements have been driven by the hotel’s ownership, whose long-term investment reflects confidence in Blouberg’s growth potential, the strength of the local hospitality sector, and the capable team behind this vision. The owner has dedicated the recent upgrades to the memory of her late husband, Mike. His influence remains deeply woven into the fabric of the hotel, and the developments stand as a lasting tribute to his legacy and his love for the Blouberg area.
