The opening of NH Sandton in July 2024 marked the return of a Sandton icon. Formerly known as the Hilton Sandton, the property will undergo a major transformation under Minor Hotels’ global NH Collection portfolio, re-emerging with a renewed identity and sense of purpose for the local hospitality and tourism landscape. One year on, NH Sandton is celebrating its role in shaping the future of hospitality in Johannesburg’s most competitive district.
The hotel has firmly positioned itself as a vibrant hub in the heart of Sandton, attracting corporate and leisure travellers, not only in Johannesburg but throughout the region. Its efforts were also recognised at the Minor Global Awards of Excellence 2025, where it received the Best Hotel Opening Award.
“Our goal was to go above and beyond simply rebranding an established building, but to reintroduce a space that has served the city of Johannesburg well for decades,” says Don Jesseman, General Manager at NH Sandton. “Sandton has evolved and so have the expectations of travellers. Our intention has been to exceed expectations while creating something that would have a lasting impact on the Sandton business district, as well as leisure seekers, beyond the city.”
More than a hotel stay
As part of its one-year anniversary celebration, NH Sandton has launched a special promotion where guests celebrating their birthdays in July receive 50% off their accommodation. It’s a gesture that speaks to the hotel’s broader goal of offering hospitality that feels both personal and inclusive. This philosophy is evident in its dining experiences, with what’s fast becoming known as the widest breakfast selection in Sandton, including a popular Asian cuisine station that reflects the international diversity of its guests.
Cognisant of its role in serving the broader communities that surround the hotel and Sandton, the NH Sandton has also supported local organisations over the past year, including Itlhokomeleng Old Age Home in Alexandra and Tumelo Home for Disabled Children, donating essentials such as blankets, cleaning supplies and bed linens. A soap recycling initiative was introduced to ensure that partially used guest soaps that would normally go to waste are hygienically repurposed and distributed to those in need. This reinforces the hotel’s commitment to practical sustainability.
Plans to complete the hotel’s transition to be fully immersed within the NH Collection Sandton brand in 2026 are underway, a move that will elevate the guest experience while maintaining the community focus that has defined its first year.
With a legacy rooted in a well-known address and a future shaped by purpose, NH Sandton is proving that reimagining hospitality transcends design or branding to focus on geographical relevance, responsibility and impact.
