Delta Air Lines is increasing its flight capacity to South Africa with the introduction of a seasonal ‘triangular’ route from Atlanta-Johannesburg-Cape Town-Atlanta. The four-times-weekly route will start on 02 December, providing nonstop service from both Cape Town and Johannesburg to Atlanta.
Delta’s largest-ever schedule to SA
The new route is exclusively for international travel and does not allow customers to fly only the domestic leg from Johannesburg to Cape Town.
The seasonal “triangle” route will operate as follows:
- Depart from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport at 18:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
- Land in Johannesburg at 16:05 the following day. Depart for Cape Town at 20:35.
- Depart from Cape Town to Atlanta at 22:50, landing at 08:00 the following morning (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday).
Jimmy Eichelgruen, Delta’s Director – Sales for Africa, Middle East & India, said, “As demand for travel increases, we’ll be offering our largest-ever schedule between South Africa and the U.S. this summer. Thanks to this added connectivity, customers will have access to more than 160 cities in North and South America, giving people even more opportunity to reconnect or expand business ties between our two countries, which U.S. Government data estimated to be worth $17.8 billion in 2019.”

Plus a nonstop Cape Town service
Additionally, a nonstop Atlanta-Cape Town service will begin on 17 December, operating on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
All of Delta’s South Africa flights are operated using Airbus A350-900 aircraft, and offer four travel options: Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin.
Delta One is the most luxurious option, where passengers can enjoy a pre-departure beverage service, artisan-made amenity kits, comfortable bedding made from recycled materials, and a chef-curated three-course meals and decadent desserts.
Delta Premium Select is the airline’s premium economy cabin. As well as more space, with a wider seat and a deeper recline, travellers can also indulge in an elevated dining experience, premium service touchpoints and new amenity kits with thoughtful inclusions such as noise-canceling headsets, blankets and memory-foam pillows.
All customers have access to onboard Wi-Fi to purchase seatback entertainment, as well as in-seat power and USB ports and carefully selected food and beverage options from small businesses from across the globe and woman- and LGBTQ+-led brands.
