Hibernating; but not for long | The Planner

The Protea Hotel Sea Point will close its doors for 3 months from June 1 and after a professional facelift will open again in September sporting a sleek and stylish new look.

The bathrooms of all sea-facing rooms will also be gutted and from the second floor up, large walk-in showers are being installed.

The family rooms will be bigger and feature 4 single beds or two double beds as options. These rooms will have two separate facilities in each room – one will have a toilet and basin and the second will have a shower and basin.
All the rooms in the hotel are also getting a new, more environmentally friendly air-conditioning system.

Among the in-room changes will be the addition of several plug points. Each room will have 9 plug points in total, 3 of them at the bedside to be able to charge all electronic and mobile devices.

“The rooms, La Cafe Restaurant and the patio area are getting a complete make-over that involves construction, furniture and fittings and we’re closing during this period so as not to disrupt GUESTS,” says Danny Bryer, Director of Sales, Marketing and Revenue for the Protea Hospitality Group.

“This refurbishment is the fourth on the Atlantic Seaboard in Cape Town since 2011 and is among approximately 20 Protea Hotels in South Africa that have been refurbished in the same period.

“It’s an ongoing process to ensure, with our property owners, that our brand standard remains world class. In the two-year period some R500 million has been invested in property improvements of hotels within the Protea Hospitality Group and it’s a process of improvement that will continue,” Bryer said.

The Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Cape Town is accommodating all individual and group enquiries over this period of the hotel being closed.
