Recently, at the World Travel Market Africa, the latest consumer trends were introduced to delegates. Travel industry panellists discussed how the industry can adapt to meet the needs of travellers.

“Consumers are increasingly seeking travel experiences that go beyond relaxation and leisure and offer personal transformation and connection with local people and cultures,” panel moderator and Big Ambitions CEO Natalie Rosa said. “The industry needs to cater to this demand by providing unique and authentic experiences that resonate with consumers.”

What do your customers want?

Whether your client is travelling for leisure or business, today’s travel clients are looking for these experiences:

• Unique and meaningful experiences, such as wellness retreats and comfort. Sleep tourism is very trendy, where ambience, good linen and location all play important roles.

• Authentic travel experiences where they can connect with people, cultures and traditions. Especially millennial travellers value authenticity and a unique adventure, but sustainability and respectfulness should always be kept in mind.

•Personalised and customised offerings .

• Sustainable tourism. Eco-tourism is big news across the planet.

• Local and regional travel. Travel restrictions during and after the pandemic shifted the focus of travellers to look closer to home for their adventures.

• Digital detox destinations. Many people plan to take a break from technology and want to be offered the opportunity of reconnecting with nature.

• Luxury eco-tourism that prioritise sustainability and environmental responsibility.

• Technology has become crucial for travel experiences, and providers need to stay informed about mobile apps and online resources to enhance the journey of the client. Virtual reality and AI need to be added into the mix if providers want to capitalise on the latest technology trends.
