Every year following the very popular ISE (Integrated Systems Europe) show in Amsterdam, SACIA have an appropriately named ‘survivor’ breakfast for those that attended and indeed managed to survive this massive exhibition, together with 65 thousand other visitors. The multitude of exhibitors and products on display provide visitors with fantastic opportunities including the latest equipment on offer and many orders are signed between South African agents and the equipment suppliers.
SACIA (SA Communications Industries Association) is the primarily fixed or installed AV equipment industry, whilst included in 2015 is also the TPSA (Technical Production Services Association) which is the free-standing equipment industry – better known to the MICE sector as staging & production.
The breakfast was attended by roughly one hundred industry professionals – and part of the breakfast proceedings were to update members on a range of important issues such as:
* Latest industry recipients of the AV Professional designation at various levels
Further experienced industry individuals were awarded with their ‘stripes’ as true
Professionals within the industry;
* Incubator Exploration with the Department of Arts & Culture
In keeping with the current BEE requirements – CEO Kevan Jones had a platform conversation with senior official of the Department of Arts & Culture Mr Collen Hlatswayo about the ongoing discussions between the private & public sector of an intern ‘apprentice’ programme to grow the youth in the AV industry;
* A quick peek at the EGF standards applicable to the AV industry
Event Greening Forum’s Deputy Chair Greg McManus briefly explained the need to read and provide input for the industry in order to confirm the EGF standards from SACIA member’s perspective.
A thoroughly enjoyable morning, jam-packed with plenty of information to take back to the office and in many instances, seriously apply.
