The Cape Town International Convention Centre will again commemorate Youth Day with a special Youth Day programme. It is the third year running that the centre will be hosting youth from Cape Town.
Youth Day is significant in the history of South Africa, and at the CTICC it is important that we highlight the impact youth – past and present – have on their communities and our society.
The CTICC will host learners from Mitchell’s Plain School of Skills and Lathi-Tha School of Skills on 13th June with a packed Youth Day programme. Both schools provide an alternative learning environment to youth and support them through skills and academic development.
“We are proud to be hosting Mitchell’s Plain School of Skills and Lathi-Tha School of skills. For a number of years, we have provided the schools with life-skills and development training, as well as hosting them at the centre for hands-on experiential training from our qualified staff. We believe such training is invaluable and equips students with the tools they need to gain employment. At the CTICC it is important for us to show our gratitude to the youth who fought so valiantly for our freedom. In our small way, and by once again hosting our Youth Day programme, I hope we are doing justice to their legacy,” says Julie-May Ellingson, Chief Operating Office, CTICC.
The Youth Day programme will focus on the power of young people to make a change in their community, city and country.
The day will be facilitated by Youth Interpreter, a community organisation that is managed by a group of young people who are focussed on enriching youth through various programmes including workshops, their Ambassadors Programme, and internships.
The CTICC is excited to be working with Youth Interpreter, as well as the youth from Mitchell’s Plain School of Skills and Lathi-Tha School of Skills, to nurture our youth to make a difference in our city, country, and their communities.
