CANSA Shavathon | The Planner

Tsogo Sun’s commitment to ‘Caring across communities’ comes fully into play for CANSA’s annual Shavathon, which has become an institution in South Africa when citizens demonstrate their empathy for cancer sufferers – at places of work, at shopping malls, and other public places.

This year’s campaign saw Tsogo Sun staff from Montecasino will be joining in to shave or spray their heads in a symbolic gesture of support for cancer survivors, and to raise funds for CANSA, while also encouraging visitors to the properties to join the Shavathon.

This year was the 15th Shavathon, which took place in offices around South Africa from Friday, 23 February to Friday, 2 March and in shopping malls on the weekend of 24 and 25 February. Montecasino managed to raise R30 000 for this initiative and handed a signed cheque to the CANSA Association.

“It’s encouraging how Montecasino staff consistently buy into the group’s efforts to positively impact the society we are a part of – in many ways, by volunteering, joining in campaigns, and by giving time, resources and funds. This year’s Shavathon saw a great turnout and much enthusiasm, as they supported one of the country’s very worthy causes,” says Mike Page, Director of Operations and Complex General Manager.
