The RRSF is a non-profit organisation that was established in 2015 by Steenkamp’s mother to raise awareness about the prevalence of abuse against women and children.
Reeva, a South African model and paralegal, lost her life when her boyfriend Paralympian and Olympian Oscar Pistorius shot and killed her on Valentine’s Day in 2013. Her case is sadly not unique, and the director of the Saartjie Baartman Center for Children in South Africa, Bernadine Bachar, reports that one in five women in South Africa has been exposed to physical abuse.
The event is being hosted by Natasha King, a Mrs South Africa 2019 Finalist, who is working closely with the RRSF to keep Reeva’s legacy alive. She says, “We want to go far with this and we can only do so with the help of everyone, men and women. We know that there are amazing men out there and we want them to continue to stand by us on this matter by offering their support and solidarity, which we have been getting.”
“At the end of the day, this not only affects women, it affects men too and we are so much stronger together than divided,” King adds.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Steenkamp foundation, where it will be used to help educate and empower victims of violence and abuse.
