While the Level 3 lockdown regulations have meant that there is a limitation on gatherings with a maximum of just 50 people, the Johannesburg Expo Centre (JEC) is making the most of its space to be part of the frontline effort in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the Nasrec Field Hospital project, the JEC has been converted into a medical care centre that is equipped with 420 isolation beds and 52 quarantine beds. The project kicked off at the end of April and was up and running within six weeks.
An additional 1 000 beds will be available in August, providing medical treatment for mild and moderate COVID-19 patients.
