Wild Coast Sun upgraded to four stars | The Planner

Following a range of upgrades and improvements recently made to the property, the Wild Coast Sun beachfront resort has been upgraded to four stars in the hotel category by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA).

“Even during lockdown we were not idle but all pulled together to ensure that the TGCSA would see our property’s star quality.”

The Wild Coast Sun casino and hotel is Sun Internationalโ€™s only beachfront resort, boasting a R80-million water park, a childrenโ€™s games area, outdoor sports, an 18-hole championship golf course and a range of restaurants. It also possesses the Wild Coast Conference Centre, also a four star TGCSA graded establishment, that has a total of 11 venues.

The Wild Coast Sun is located on the Mtamvuna River border between the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, just 5km from Port Edward and a two-hour drive from Durbanโ€™s King Shaka International Airport.

“The Wild Coast is an absolute tourism gem that deserves to recognised.”

The TGCSA is the only officially recognised quality assurance body for tourism products in South Africa. When grading a property, the TGCSA needs to consider the hotel and restaurant amenities, as well of those of the broader resort and its activities. In doing so, the Wild Coast Sun also received the following accolades:

  • Resort Award
  • Family Friendly Award
  • Responsible Tourism Award
  • Water Sports Award
  • Cycling Friendly Award
  • Equestrian Award
  • Golfing Award
  • Hiking Award,
  • Holistic Wellness Award
  • Spas and Beauty Award

Peter Tshidi, the Wild Coast Sun GM, accepted the award and had this to say: โ€œThis award recognises the hard work we have invested in improving the property. Even during lockdown we were not idle but all pulled together to ensure that the TGCSA would see our property’s star quality.

โ€œThe Wild Coast is an absolute tourism gem that deserves to recognised. Where else can you choose from deep-sea fishing, rock, surf, fly or spear fishing, scuba diving, hiking trails and horse rides on the beach? And thereโ€™s even a river and lagoon where you can paddle-boat, canoe or relax with cocktails on a river cruise.โ€

He added, โ€œMy sincere thanks to all my staff and management who so ably assisted in achieving this amazing feat.โ€
