In this first compilation of its kind on South Africa, a German expat and a passionate South African have joined forces to create a new and unique guidebook on living in South Africa.
Living in South Africa is a practical handbook on moving to, working in and enjoying life in South Africa. This guide is useful to all interested in embracing life in South Africa. It is packed with 296 colourful pages of information, useful tips and resources and gives a comprehensive detailed overview of this unique country.
βThe book is born out of the desire to share our insights into daily life in South Africa,β explains the author Regina Graeff, a German expat living in Cape Town for almost a decade. βA few years ago I created the website ExpatCapeTown.com on which I share my experiences of life in South Africa with thousands of people around the world. I have lived in the USA, Australia, Singapore and various European countries before settling here in Cape Town. Although culture shock hit quite hard when we first moved here, I now absolutely love living in the βMother Cityβ and consider this to be my home. Thus it was a logical progression to follow on from the website and when I met Derryn, who is passionate about South Africa, we decided to compile the Living in South Africa guidebookβ
Derryn Campbell is a co-founder of Awesome SA, a movement that encourages South Africans to positively influence the future. Derrynβs first book, Awesome South Africa is a huge success and quickly became a best-seller, selling over 50Β 000 copies. The book was also shortlisted for the South African Booksellersβ Choice Award. Derryn explains βWe wanted to create a practical guide which covers everything you need to know about living in the country. Hence the book has both relevant background information about the countryβs history, economy and cultural heritage as well as a comprehensive overview of more practical topics related to daily living. Amongst these are health, housing, transport, working, education, and leisure.β
The foreword to the book was provided by the African Union Commission Chairperson, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. Β In the endorsement provided by Dr Dlamini-Zuma, she writes: Β βLiving in South Africa is the perfect welcome to our amazing country. This book is filled with vital information, practical tips and social insights. A must-read not only for expats, but for all who want to embrace living in South Africaβ.
The pages are presented with a colourful design, graphics, and photographs and the information is complemented with personal experience and includes helpful hints and recommended resources. This book is aimed to help any newcomer to this country and ensure the transition of moving to and living in South Africa is a rewarding and fulfilling experience.
The book is available from bookshops in South Africa, from various online stores or directly from the publisher. More info can be found on the website: www.living-in-south-africa.com
