Sterkfontein Caves wins with TripAdvisor | The Planner

TripAdvisor travellers have once again rated the Sterkfontein Caves as a must-see destination when in South Africa, enabling it to receive its 2014 Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor.

The Certificate of Excellence is awarded in recognition of the positive feedback received from visitors posting reviews on the site.

“The Sterkfontein Caves offer visitors a glimpse into the exciting and colourful history of the area and should definitely be on the itinerary for any travellers heading to South Africa. We are proud that the Caves have been recognised as worthy of the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence and believe this award will bring more feet into the Caves exposing, more people to the wonder that they are,” says Lindsay Marshall, Communications and Marketing Manager Maropeng.

An hour’s drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, the Sterkfontein Caves are world famous for their fossil finds. The Sterkfontein Caves are owned by the University of the Witwatersrand, whose scientists have been responsible for the main excavations of the World Heritage Site. They are credited with many of the famous discoveries including the world famous “Mrs Ples” and “Little Foot”, an almost complete Australopithecus skeleton dating back more than 3-million years. The tours at the Sterkfontein Caves, which start above ground and then take visitors deep into the caves, run every half hour, seven days a week.
