Super-fast connectivity at Protea Hotel Stellenbosch | The Planner

Protea Hotel Stellenbosch has gone live with a high-speed fibre optic line that offers conference delegates and guests super-fast connectivity.

What this means in plain language is that the hotel is now on a 1:1 20 mbps line, which is faster internet speed than offered by most hotels in South Africa, and indeed in large parts of the world.

According to Hotelchatter.com’s 9th annual Hotel Wi-Fi Report (2013), some 63% of hotels around the world now offer Wi-Fi to guests, but a far smaller percentage offers free Wi-Fi, which is standard across every Protea Hotel in Africa. Guests each receive up to 500Mb free per room per day.

Protea Hotels Director of Sales, Marketing and Revenue, Danny Bryer, says the new fibre optic system is particularly exciting from a group and conference and MICE point of view.

”The potential for uninterrupted high definition Video Calls (VCs) that don’t freeze or lag comes with this sort of system, as well as the facility for corporate guests to connect to their networks via VPNs that work properly and fast.”

Bryer says the new offering will give Protea Hotel Stellenbosch another unique differentiator among executive hotels and conference venues in South Africa.

“There’s only one reason to offer a service like this, which is to continue to anticipate, meet and exceed our guests expectations. Our guests and delegates at this very popular Winelands conferencing destination are going to be pleasantly surprised next time they log on at the hotel.

“There’s nothing that irritates a guest more than internet-connectivity that continually hangs or lags, which is why all Protea Hotels have been investing a great deal of time and resources into providing a consistent Wi-Fi connectivity experience that is both free to use and works at the pace that our guests and delegates appreciate the longer they use it.”
