Six event practitioners to be awarded at MARKEX | The Planner

Six event practitioners participating in the online CPD MICE programme will receive recognition from Peter Schoeman, SATSA National Executive Committee member representing FEDHASA Large Group Hotels and City Lodge Divisional Marketing & Sales Director on Wednesday 11 June during Markex at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Continuing professional development (CPD) is proving a popular method for updating knowledge while being tested in accordance with the National Qualification Framework’s domains and sectors of the South African events management industry.

The event practitioners to be recognised for MICE CPD 2013/14 have been tested in five domains as per the International Event Management Body of Knowledge, Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council Emerit ICS-CEMP and Convention Industry Council’s CMPIS. The five domains are: Administration, Design, Marketing, Operations and Risk. The sectors and sub-sectors covered under the five domains are extensive within the testing process which is both confidential and stringent.

The Academy undertook a high-level SAQA presentation as to the ease-of-use and method of the online CPD MICE programme following pre-test reading material written by knowledgeable national and international authors. The South African Qualification Authority has accepted the online CPD MICE Programme as a method for improving skills development.

The event practitioners who are to be recognised, range from the head of a major association event department, independent meeting planners with international IT clients and a day conference venue. The event practitioners have undertaken over 12 tests in all the domains, achieving the required 30 accumulated credits within a specified prescribed period.

Further event practitioners are joining-up for the CPD MICE 2014/15 programme. On Tuesday 10 June at 08h00 – a full-scale demo of the programme will take place followed by the inaugural Awards on the 11th June.
