May was a busy month at Premier Hotels and Resort’s properties on the East London beachfront, with a number of successful events that were large and varied, proving once again the versatility of these facilities.
During the national general elections at the beginning of May, the IEC used the Premier Hotel Regent as their main results centre in the Eastern Cape. The set up consisted of the main results centre, a provincial Electoral office, an SAPS office and live broadcast facilities for SABC and ETV. The centre was fully catered for by the Premier Hotel Regent and as the hotel also offers a range of accommodation options, IEC staff and journalists, who were working long hours on the elections, were able to conveniently stay within walking distance of the election centre.
Following the elections, IEC Provincial Electoral Officer, Thamsanqa Mraji said “We would like to thank the Premier Hotels and Resorts team for their good service and co-operation during the time of our Election when we were at the Regional Operations Centre based at the Premier Hotel Regent. The team was excellent in taking care of our needs.”
Another event in May was the annual Eastern Cape seminar for the Institute of Municipal Finance Officers. This was hosted at the East London International Convention Centre from 21 to 23 May. Over 300 delegates attended the three day seminar for financial decision makers in the public sector. The seminar provided a networking opportunity for municipal finance officers to exchange ideas and learn from each other’s experience. Delegates enjoyed a cocktail function on the first evening and a themed dinner on the second night during which they could socialise with their peers.
On Saturday, May 31, Premier Hotel Regent played host to one of the national I am an Entrepreneur series of events, hosted across South Africa and supported by Renault and Nedbank. Dr Bridgette Zanele Gasa, Managing Director of Elilox Group and MyStartUp and Powerof1 founders, Andile Khumalo and Bonnke Shipalana spoke at the event. The event was attended by young entrepreneurs from across the Eastern Cape.
