Thebe Reed Exhibitions walked away with two top awards at the Standard Bank Top Women Awards ceremony in Johannesburg on Thursday 14 August.
Managing director Carol Weaving was named Top Female Entrepreneur of the Year and the company the Top Gender Empowered Company: Travel, Leisure and Entertainment.
Weaving, who has worked in the South African business events industry for the past 27 years, was also the first-ever female chairperson of the Exhibition and Event Association of Southern Africa.
She says Thebe Reed’s gender empowerment policy is evident from its huge female staff component of more than 80 percent. “In fact, the empowerment of women is entrenched in the company philosophy. My staff and I are truly honoured by these two special awards. This is a great motivation for us to continue empowering women in this very dynamic industry.”
Weaving was also selected as one of Meetings magazine’s Top 40 Women in MICE initiative
Weaving heads up Thebe Reed Exhibitions, in which she owns a 10 percent stake. Reed Exhibitions, the world’s leading events organiser and part of the FTSE-listed Reed Elsevier Group, holds the majority stake – 60 percent – and the Thebe Tourism Group holds a further 30 percent.
