PCO’s CHANGE FOCUS
With commissions being questioned and management fees scrutinised, it is interesting to note the number of PCO’s that have become event registration managers at an easy-to-control per delegate rate – while encouraging the client to be recognised as the conference organisers. It’s a smart survival move which places the rough and tumble of the logistical organising into the client’s responsibility space.  And when certain negative issues cause client a panic attack – the PCO can be on hand similar to a knight in shining armour to save the day – at an additional charge of course.

CONFERENCES CAUTIONED ON PROGRAMME CONTENT
‘Tis the season of the member trade association conferences – some with great purpose and outcomes while others are still finding their purpose. Noticeable is the hard sell presentation of a selected member’s services especially to a fee-paying audience.  This is a tasteless tactic which surely could alienate members for future encounters.

BRETT SHUTTLEWORTH INTRIGUES AT HACKLE BROOKE
Personal assistants, training co-ordinators and managers spent a morning of splendid hospitality last week while being entertained by the erudite Brett Shuttleworth,  who’s expansive career and life’s philosophies were enjoyed by all.  In conversation with training managers – with extensive annual booking schedules – it was noted the reason for selecting a specific venue over another. (1) The requirements do not need to be repeated and (2) The same continuous venue personnel contact.   MICE venues especially with accommodation links should take note that venue operating personnel can be key to future bookings and ongoing change of staff is to be avoided.
