More than 2 500 children enjoyed an exclusive VIP experience with some of their favourite South African heroes at the Durban Exhibition Centre this weekend.

International Bank Vaults (IBV) in association with Durban International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) hosted underprivileged children from over 40 children’s homes at the fifth annual IBV VIP Children’s day as part of their corporate social responsibility programme.

An atmosphere of excitement and expectancy filled the halls of the Durban Exhibition Centre as high profile South African celebrities, sports personalities, CEOs and entertainers dedicated their time to pamper the youngsters from the various children’s homes in and around Durban.

Commenting on the special day, Acting Chief Executive Officer Nicolette Elia-Beissel said, “It’s an honour for the Durban ICC to participate in such a meaningful event. As a company, we believe that our contribution to this worthy cause will make a difference in our communities and raise the public’s awareness around the social challenges our country faces on a daily basis. I appreciate the spirit of service I see in our team and would like to express my appreciation to each and every Durban ICC staff member who volunteered their time to make the day such a success.”

Heaps of fun, interactive and educational activities were set up to spoil the little ones making it an unforgettable experience. Activity zones, which included a volleyball court, a mammoth slide, a soccer field, mini jeeps, trains and pony rides, were arranged for the kids to enjoy. The children were also treated to an array of delicious refreshments, served by the celebrities and volunteers from the Durban ICC. The day culminated in a huge concert which featured performances by top South African artists such as Big Nuz, Tira, Professor and HHP just to name a few.

IBV Chief Executive Officer, Ashok Sewnarain said, “Today these children are living in our world but tomorrow we will live in theirs. We believe that by showing these children how special they are by giving them a day just for them, we are making a meaningful difference in not only our country but our world too.”
