Cape Town International Convention Centre’s (CTICC), Chief Executive Officer, Julie-May Ellingson has clinched the esteemed title of “Africa’s Most Influential Woman in the Public Enterprises Sector” at the Continental Awards Gala Dinner held recently in Johannesburg.
The CEO Magazine’s “Africa’s Most Influential Woman in Business and Government” awards programme has recognized and rewarded women leaders across the African continent. These women have not only made a significant impact in their respective fields, but have inspired a legacy for future generations.
In 2014, over 11 500 nominations were received from 43 African countries and in August the Country and Regional winners were selected with the regional winners then going forward to the continental awards.
Ellingson, who began her tenure at the CTICC on 1 September 2014, won top spot in the Public Enterprises category as the country winner for South Africa as well as the SADC regional winner and went on as one of only 80 finalists to the Continental awards. Following receipt of the Continental Award in the Public Enterprises category Ellingson said “It has been an absolute honour and privilege to be the recipient of this award and to hve participated alongside a calibre of admired industry leaders”.
“Being bestowed this coveted title is testament that empowering women is a pivotal cornerstone to making fundamental strides in shaping society and transforming the role, which women play in the business arena,” she added.
The Annual Continental Awards Gala Dinner has become a prominent platform for continuous networking, industry excellence, profiling and the advancement of gender empowerment.
Ellingson was also a finalist in the 2014 Business Women Association’s “Business Woman of the Year” Awards. The Businesswoman of the Year Award is South Africa’s premier award for women achievers in business. Ms Ellingson was also recognized as one of the top 40 women in the MICE industry on September 2014. She received this award for her commitment to advancing and transforming the meetings and events industry.
