Reese Malan on the road to achieving his dreams | The Planner

Reece - TBChanging career paths after making it to management might seem counterproductive to some, but for The Table Bay’s Reese Malan, taking the leap of faith to change direction in his late thirties has put him on the road towards achieving his dreams.

Having worked in managerial positions at two corporate companies, Malan decided to give it up and pursue a career in hospitality. He began working at Lagoon Beach in (Milnerton) as a chauffeur driver in 2010. Before long, after a lot of hard work, extra hours, cross-training, and willingness to learn, he moved to the position of travel consultant at MK Exotics. After that, he found himself working as the operations manager at Crystal Towers.

When he got the opportunity to take the position of driver at Sun International’s prestigious Table Bay, he jumped at it. It meant that he would once again have that interaction with guests and opportunities to drive that he so craved.

He has just been promoted to the position of transport manager, overseeing the hotel’s chauffer services.

“Our drivers are often the hotel’s first point of contact with guests. They are where the experience begins. It is important that our drivers are continually up-skilled and empowered to deliver an exceptional tourist experience. I am excited about working to take our department to new heights and make it even more successful. We will be looking at adding more tailored experiences which will allow our guests to tour the Cape Winelands’ globally-renowned wine states; explore city landmarks, and other attractions with our experienced driver-guides,” says Malan.
