Petro Ferreira, who will be responsible for managing the Jacaranda Agricultural Show.

Petro Ferreira, a well-known and highly respected stalwart in agricultural circles, has been appointed by Tshwabac, owners of the Jacaranda Agricultural Show, to manage its flagship event which will be hosted at the Tshwane Events Centre’s show grounds on 26-29 August 2015.

The show, formerly known as the Pretoria Show, has been refocused as a purely agricultural show, and Petro and her team accepted the challenge of growing the show to its full potential within the next 5 years.

The 75-year old show is a landmark event on the agricultural calendar. The Tshwane Events Centre’s stabling facilities are widely recognised as being the best in the country and offers a convenient central location. The cream of the country’s stud animals, from humble “kapokkies” to majestic bulls, will be competing for top honours in various prestige categories.

“A highly relevant show that incorporates all farmers in SA, supported by all role players, which showcases the transforming face of agriculture in Africa across the whole value chain,” says Petro.

The first three days of the show are designated as a business-to-business platform designed to promote agricultural business opportunities and networking events for farmers and the agricultural industry in South Africa, while the last day will present families and the general public with a highly enjoyable outing to a festive agricultural event.

Various new elements will be added to the show this year, including a game ranching conference, theoretical workshops and practical demonstrations, AgriFem (the ladies’ hall), a working example of an integrated farming model aimed at smallholders, new inventions, and the optimal use of technology in farming practices.

Other highlights on this year’s show programme include:
• The Obaro Carcass Competition
• The ARC’s National Beef Performers Awards
• Youth Show Inter-provincial Competition
• Large number of cattle and goat competitions
• A bumper equine programme, including gymkhana
• Indigenous Veld Goat national auction
• Pig, sheep and rabbit farming
• Poultry, waterfowl and fancy pigeons
• Aquaculture
• Working dogs
• In-door static displays of various breeds.
• Modelling and brides, evening wear and matric farewell function dresses
• Sugar and other guilds.
