Celebrating its 121st year, the Rand Show took place from 3 to 12 April 2015 at the Nasrec Expo Centre and truly exceeded expectations. The extensive variety of attractions at the show confirmed again that the Rand Show is an event that adds an innovative new element every year and never disappoints.
With backup generators, covered stalls and many indoor halls; it was clear that neither rain nor load shedding would affect the show’s proceedings. Even on a cloudy day one could still see three parachute jumpers demonstrating their skills.
The main attractions included:
- Animal Kingdom which featured bird and snake exhibits, a free flight bird show and daily demonstrations.
- The Naked Scientist who performed shows where he detonated explosives and experimented with various objects and chemicals while he educated the crowd about the scientific elements involved. Thankfully he performed these demonstrations and explanations fully clothed.
- Battle of the Behemoths where a host of top strength athletes competed in the Rand Show Strongest Man competition which is a qualifying round for the title of SA’s Strongest Man.
- The Parabot standing at nearly 10 meters tall and developed by the Paramount Group. Not only did this transformer superhero create much excitement, but it also contributed to rhino poaching awareness.
- SANDF ensures an exciting programme at the Rand Show every year. This year they combined their four arms; the SA Army, SA Air Force, SA Navy and SA Military Health Service, to demonstrate their impressive abilities and strict military training.
Other attractions include the Pirates Paradise for kids, the mouth-watering SA Chef’s Theatre, Seven Sevens Free Fall & Xtreme show, a drifting track, the fun fair with lots of rides, go karts, helicopter rides and many more.
No other consumer show gives you the same value for money which the Rand Show does. It allows families to spend the entire day at the show and make an outing of it. With yet another successful show done and dusted, we are looking forward to see what is in store at the Rand Show 2016.
