Event management courses abound: Part 1 | The Planner

Ask any gardener – come the rains, come a good crop of weeds. Clearly ‘tis the season: for all and sundry to climb onto the event management training bandwagon. The range is extensive from cheap one day quickies with ideas to ‘set-up any organiser with lasting event success,’ to parting with vast sums of money which arrogantly proclaim have more documentation than imaginable or which can comfortably be carted away.

In the middle of all this are the universities, member associations, colleges and ‘professional’ event management companies who also have the answers to any and every event management requirement – both online and face to face.

But wait, there’s more. Various event management ‘qualifications’ have also been imported into South Africa that have a different focus yet presumably the same purpose which is to improve all and every kind of event being considered at this time and well into the future.

hot tipHot tip:

  • Prior to registration acceptance, thorough background knowledge of each participant is essential for positive individual outcomes to the presented curricula.
  • Without thorough knowledge of the trainer’s practical abilities in relation to the participant’s type of planning and level of decision-making – it is unlikely to yield effective knowledge transfer back at the office.
  • Heed these words, it could make the difference in confirming whether positive knowledge transfer within a course has been achieved or not.
