Reunion Island has been awarded as the best outdoor destination and third best honeymoon destination for Chinese travellers in 2016 by Top Magazine, a specialised travel media magazine with a readership of over 100,000.
The awards are held in association with Qyer.com and China National Geographic.Each year, there are more than 100,000 readers that vote for their international favorite destination among several categories, and for the first time, Reunion Island has captured the coveted outdoor destination award. Reunion Island was also nominated for best honeymoon destination and crowned as the third best honeymoon destination in the world with 27,200 votes behind the Maldives (27,748 votes) and Santorini (28,104 votes).
These awards came as the result of an intensive marketing strategy introduced by Reunion Island Tourism (IRT) in the Chinese market several years ago. A visa waiver was authorized for Chinese agencies in July 2014 too, which allows for stays of less than 15 days on Reunion Island for Chinese travellers without the requirement of a visa.
