The newly created AIPC board brings a range of diverse, global expertise to the association.
Gregory A. O’Dell, the president and CEO of Events DC, the official authority for sports and conventions in Washington, DC, has been elected president of the International Association of Convention Centers (AIPC) for the 2021-2023 term.
The Executive Council will be complemented with the inclusion of four directors:
• Juliana Lopez, President, Grupo Heroica – Colombia
• Taubie Motlhabane, CEO, Cape Town International Convention Centre – South Africa
• Christian Folden Lund, CEO, Bella Center – Denmark
• Panittha Buri, Managing Director, BITEC – Thailand
Commenting on the appointment of the new board was Sven Bossu, CEO of the AIPC: “The diversity of the board reflects the truly global nature of AIPC and will be of benefit to the association when it comes to engaging with regional stakeholders, obtaining market insights and growing the AIPC Community. It is widely recognised that a diversified Board boosts the performance of any organization, so AIPC is in for exciting times.”
The future
Through his role at Events DC where he oversees conventions and meetings; sports and entertainment; and creative services, Greg has helped drive the recovery of tourism and revive the meetings industry within Washington, DC.

I look forward to working with our incredible board and CEO as we continue to foster growth, cultivate partnerships and value for AIPC and its members,” noted Gregory O’Dell, president and chief executive officer of Events DC.
Greg will be overseeing the rollout of various initiatives including the AIPC’s Future Shapers Program announced at the association’s General Assembly. This is a free, nine-month management programme, designed specifically for upcoming leaders in convention centres. The programme will be officially launched at AIPC’s upcoming Annual Conference that takes place 9-14 July 2021.
