South Africa moves to lockdown Level 1 | The Planner
The announcement last night by President Cyril Ramaphosa that South Africa will be moving to lockdown Level 1 has been welcomed by the events industry and nation.

As South Africa emerges from the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the citizens of the country last night to announce that the nation’s risk-adjusted lockdown Level 2 would be moved to Level 1.

“Since we launched our national vaccination drive, it has been gathering pace. To date, we have administered over 17 million vaccine doses. Over 8.6 million people are fully vaccinated, which is more than one-fifth of the adult population,” said the President in his speech, noting that 60% of South Africans over the age of 60 have now received at least one dose of the vaccine.

“These numbers give us confidence and hope,” highlighted the President.

What the new regulations mean

As of today, those residing in South Africa can look forward to the new set of eased regulations that will mean a later curfew, larger gatherings that still respect social distancing and other health and safety protocols, and the normal resumption of alcohol sales, among other measures (see below).
