The South African Tourism office in Mumbai recently won the Todays Traveller Best Publicity and Promotions Award.

South African Tourism India won the Todays Traveller Best Publicity and Promotions Award at an awards function on 7 August 2012. This is hot on the heels of another big win: earlier this year the team won Lonely Planets award for Best International Wildlife Destination.

Innovative outdoor and cinema campaigns, and the excellent country guide penned by famous cricketer, Jonty Rhodes, helped South African Tourism to its win.

The Todays Traveller Awards are the brainchild of G.I.C Pvt Ltd, publishers of the award-winning magazine, Todays Traveller. The objective of the awards is to recognise exceptional achievers and contributors in the field of marketing who have inspired the many players in the corporate, entertainment and travel industries.

The gala awards ceremony boasted a distinguished guest list that included Mr Subodh Kant Sahai, the Honourable Minister for Tourism, Government of India.

The awards were judged by a jury comprising leaders in the travel and tourism industry.

Hanneli Slabber, Country Head, South African Tourism India, was delighted with the prestigious award and said that 2 awards in quick succession were very encouraging. We have invested a lot of effort in communicating about South Africa as a complete family holiday destination. The award shows that our messages have reached our target audience. There were many out-of-the-box ideas that we used in this journey, especially the guide launched in association with Jonty Rhodes,’ she said.

Slabber says that sometimes its important to take the creative lead in order to capture the attention of your target market. It was the first time that any NTO in India had the idea to marry tourism and cricket. As a first mover in the space we kept our fingers crossed. I am glad it paid off so well,’ she commented.
