Sun City Casino gets a facelift | The Planner

The multi-million rand revamp of the legendary Sun City Casino is well underway, with the project scheduled for completion by November this year. Over R50-million is being invested in refreshing and rejuvenating the casino which was Sun Internationalโ€™s first gaming facility, established in 1979.

The extensive refurbishment of the casino will offer a greater choice of machines and an improved ambiance with more space and a better configuration, allowing for more comfortable experience and better customer service.

The non-smoking gaming floor will offer 323 slot machines, including Sun Internationalโ€™s exciting wide area progressive jackpot machines, Duma and Sunstriker, and 10 tables, including Money Wheel.

For the first time, there will be a Reward Centre located next to the MVG centre. To improve drinks service in the floor, there will be a walk-up bar and service bar strategically-located in the middle of the non-smoking casino.

The upper center core will be reconfigured with a new, upmarket venue, Cherry Bar. ย The entire area will have an improved look and feel with new and improved lighting and carpets.

Once the gaming mecca of Southern Africa, Sun Cityโ€™s focus now emphasizes the โ€œAfrican experienceโ€ following gaming concessions that have been awarded for in-city casinos elsewhere in the country. The Resort borders the game-rich and malaria-free Pilanesberg National Park where people can spot the Big Five on magnificent game drives and experience spectacular views of the reserve in hot air balloons.

Sun Cityโ€™s accommodation options include the opulent Palace of the Lost City; the 5-star Cascades Hotel; the 4-star Sun City Hotel & Casino; the 3-star, family-friendly Cabanas Hotel, and the self-catering Vacation Club. The resort boasts a dazzling selection of restaurants, ranging from formal dining to casual; retail stores; take-away food outlets; night clubs; bars, cinemas, and cafes.

Home to the Nedbank Golf Challenge and the Miss South Africa Pageant, Sun City hosts a myriad of other exciting events throughout the year. The highly-anticipated Spring Celebration, in September and October this year, features a jam-packed line-up of activities and shows. Some of the high profile performers in the line-up for the Sun City Spring Celebration are Die Campbells; LCNVL (Locnville); Pascal & Pearce and Nakhane Toure.

Family-friendly entertainment includes The Giant Puppets and Marimba Band on Heritage Day on Wednesday, 24 September at the Valley of Waves. Children can also venture down to Kamp Kwena near the Cabanas where two sessions of supervised activities are hosted every day. The fun-filled programme varies daily and includes visits to Kwena Gardens (crocodile farm), musical games, arts and crafts, story- telling, mini quad bike-riding, excursions to the nearby Predator World, adventures at The Maze of the Lost City, mini train rides, bumper boats and more.
