Maropeng scored a double win at the national leg of the 2014 Lilizela Awards which were held at the Lyric Theatre in Gold Reef City on 9 October.ย These wins follow on from their wins in the same categories at the Gauteng provincial awards the previous week.
The Lilizela Tourism Awards are South Africaโs premier travel and tourism awards, with the aim of rewarding and celebrating excellence across the tourism industry.
Maropeng, the official visitor centre for the Cradle of Humankind Heritage site, has been recognised for its world-class conferencing facilities in the 4-star Meetings, Exhibitions and Special events category.
The second award was for the unique experience Maropeng offers visitors in the โVisitorsโ experience: Roots and Culture category.
โWe are very excited about these awards, they are an award and a tribute to my hardworking staff,โ says Tony Rubin, Managing Director of Maropeng.
Magel van de Venter, Maropeng Educational and Marketing Executive returned the compliment saying that credit for these awards in a large part goes to Rubin for his great leadership in the management of the centre. โWe couldnโt have done it without Tony,โ she says.
In addition to the Lilizela Tourism Awards recognition, Maropeng received four gold awards and silver at the seventh West Rand Tourism Awards earlier this year.
