Cape Grace is delighted to announce the completion of their newly refashioned, luxurious pool and outdoor area, ahead of the 2014 summer season. Similar to a glamourous Mediterranean yacht moored in the bay under the watchful gaze of the iconic Table Mountain, guests can now relax in an elegant and distinguished outdoor area that overlooks Cape Town’s acclaimed yacht basin.
Complete with a sunken lounge, rim flow pool and stylish bar, the nautical elements enhance the experience of ‘being at sea’ with maritime design features seamlessly carried through from Signal restaurant to the pool and bar area. Other additions include changing rooms, shower facilities, a kid’s pool and a functional service bar with full access for disabled guests.
Renowned interior designers, Kathi and Klaudia Weixelbaumer, who refashioned the hotel in 2008, commissioned celebrated Cape based master craftsman, Pierre Cronje, to produce contemporary bespoke nautical-inspired furniture for the interior and exterior elements.
“We used oak for the interior and hard wearing Iroco wood for the exterior furniture. Pierre’s Iroco nautical chair with riempie ribbon seats, which we have selected as part of our furnishings, is a signature piece, and was featured as the leading chair design at the 2014 World Design Capital Expo. We chose to play with greys, blacks, bone and royal and navy blue for the soft installations, and used hand-painted fabrics with sailing flag designs.” says Kathi Weixelbaumer.
Sandy Pollard, Cape Grace GM, added “The newly re-fashioned space is in keeping with international design trends, whilst subtly retaining the Cape Grace’s old world charm and distinct Cape Town flavour, for which the hotel is renowned”.
