Live Events Conference: A different kind of transformation? | The Planner

The word transformation has many interpretations depending on who one is conversing with. Transformation could mean a change in form, appearance, nature or character or it could mean the process by which deep structures are converted into surface structures using various rules.

According to the LETPC website, the purpose of the Live Event Conference taking place from 13 to 15 May seeks to explore, together with a myriad of international experts, the technical skills development from a matriculation entry to an NQF level 5. In turn, it is assumed that with a higher technical qualification, the staging and production industry will be transformed into an ‘equitable’ share of the existing established South African staging and production industry.

The conference purpose is a most admirable one in which – for the deliberations to progress swiftly – it is urged that an authentic scene-setter will pinpoint the absolute essentials in moving forward during the conference.

Within the South African context these are:
Factual research into the following:

  • Roots and progress of the established technical industry
  • Amount of staging companies together with employer/employee demographics
  • Developed training initiatives with current ongoing courses
  • Learning curves towards job creation
  • The high risk in growing a technical business
  • The mixed rewards coupled with the responsibility for an ongoing successful staging company

It’s a question of all the Rs and not in the educational sense this time. The Rs in an effective and successful staging and production industry are:  Research, Risk, Reward and Responsibility.

If the four Rs are used as the foundation at the Live Event Conference, a strong base will be established at the outset towards a successful  inaugural conference outcome.
