In a show of support for the inaugural 702 Sun International CEO Sleep Out in Sandton on Thursday, 18 June 2015, a group of spirited employees and executives from GrandWest, Golden Valley, and The Table Bay, also spent the night out in the cold.
A spirited group of some 70 employees from Sun International’s GrandWest, Golden Valley and The Table Bay, spent the night under the stars on Thursday 18 June 2015 to raise awareness and collect necessities for vulnerable children.
The sleep out was aligned with the inaugural 702 Sun International CEO Sleep Out hosted in Johannesburg, Sandton on the same night. In a show of support of this worthy initiative and in solidarity with Sun International’s CEO, Graeme Stephens, the volunteers camped out for the night at GrandWest’s volleyball court. With no shelter and temperatures plummeting, the Sleep Out volunteers experienced firsthand the brittle cold and hardships that people living on the streets endure every day.
Volunteers collected blankets and sleeping bags for the Haven Night Shelter, while monetary donations will be donated to The Girls and Boys Town which is the beneficiary of the 702 Sun International CEO Sleep Out.
“Spending the night out in the cold on a winter’s night was an eye-opener for everyone who participated. Following this experience, we will all view the reality facing South Africa’s homeless in a new light.
“We want to thank everyone who kindly supported our campaign by making a donation. Our local children’s charities depend heavily on the support they receive from the public and local businesses in order to continue providing their invaluable services to their communities,” says Heidi Edson, group socio economic development manager at Sun International’s GrandWest.
