As the saying goes – time flies. Seven years ago Natalie du Toit was our flag bearer at the 2008 Olympics, George Bush was in the White House and Percy Montgomery was the most capped Springbok.
Seven years from 2015, the Durban Commonwealth Games will be the sporting event in our midst with a string of accolades for a variety of athletes probably not well-known – if known at all in 2015.
The savvy MICE planners, especially those within the corporate and association sectors, should consider the benefits of a MICE booking at a variety of excellent Durban venues just before or during the Games.
The conceptual thinkers among us can surely envisage an incentive or association conference in easy reach to the Games with early ticket bookings to get their members, dealers, customers, employees et al geared-up for a truly message-retention gathering prior to or during this great sporting occasion.
Chances are some of the other Commonwealth countries – Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Canada immediately come to mind – are already making plans.
The marketing opportunities abound, get out there and really plan ahead – let’s not be left behind on this one.
