KZN Philharmonic and Durban ICC team upIn a joint Corporate Social Investment initiative, the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Durban International Convention Centre teamed up to host the Lunch Hour Christmas Concert this week.

The concert was a celebration of festive music and featured well-known items from Brahms and Tchaikovsky as well as a few contemporary numbers and even some Christmas carols. The audience was also treated to performances from local soloists Siphokazi Maphumulo and Wayne Mkhize.

The project was an opportunity for the members of local seniors’ homes to attend a complimentary concert performed by the highly esteemed orchestra. The members of the orchestra donated their time and the Durban ICC came on-board as the sponsor of the venue, technical and culinary offering for the concert.

Seniors from the Issy Geshen Home for the Aged, TAFTA Bel Air and South Beach were invited to enjoy the concert, as well as over 80 children from the Imbeleko Youth Foundation. For many of these youngsters, it was their first time hearing a full orchestra in action.Commenting on the special event, Chief Executive Officer Lindiwe Rakharebe said, “It’s an honour for the Durban ICC to join with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra to give back to the community. We value the partnership between our two organisations and are excited to grow this collaboration together in the new year.”
