Planner standards start taking shape | The Planner

A great deal of research during the past 10 months has called for a planner standard to which the MICE decision-makers – corporate / association & public sectors – can be guided as to the tasks and planning requirements irrespective of capacity or event type.

The call for a guide – an acceptable level of quality – was first heard from the HR departments as the receivers of the many challenges experienced with the planning process from other departments within their organisations.

The second call were well-documented from the recorded outcomes of the 2nd Events Industry Summit – at the end of 2015 – which was released in early 2016.

There was a thorough selection of the panel members by industry vote, representative of the prominent venues (both accommodation-linked and free-standing), independent planners and in particular the corporate end-users.
The panel member briefings were most thorough which was well-facilitated by MC Justin Cohen.
No stone was left unturned to ensure the MICE suppliers and services delved deep into their particular ‘take’ on the need for planner standards.

The large delegation, together with the individual panellists, were unanimous in their call for planner standards. The Summit synopsis is available on request email info@miceacademy.co.za

The first draft planner standards is due for release by mid-2016 which will be tabled to the end-user decision-makers for comment and commitment going forward.

The final Summit wrap-up defines the way forward ”…The outcomes of the EIS15 are likely to have a profound effect on the planning industry going forward. Why should a client entrust an event to a planner that does not follow a standard? Today starts the process. Building something bigger than ourselves. Let’s make this work …‘’ Justin Cohen – Master of Ceremonies
