Gareth Jordaan has been appointed as the new Executive Chef of Southern Sun Hyde Park Sandton
Gareth is a graduate of Lis Hotel School and received his diploma in hospitality management and professional cookery.
After graduation, Gareth launched his career through an internship at the Ritz Carlton resort in Naples Florida. That eventually led to employment and promotion to a chef de parti under certified master chef Derin Moore on the properties 5 star fine dining restaurant. It was at this level where Gareth’s passion for food took him on his career path he has chosen.
Gareth returned to South Africa in 2010 to fulfil the duties as Sous chef at soccer city for the Fifa world cup. In this capacity he was responsible for catering and ensuring food delivery for up to 90 000 spectators. He then spent the next two years as a sous chef in Johannesburg hotels – Protea Hotel Balalaika and Faircity hotels.
After lengthy interviews he landed a Job as Opening Sous Chef at the Cipriani restaurant and Yacht Club on Yas island Abu Dhabi. He spent 18 months working with Italian chefs and mastering Italian cuisine with Italy’s most iconic restaurateur Cipriani . He was also privileged to cook for many presidents, sheiks and celebrities on their private yachts at the yacht club.
In 2013 Gareth joined the Tsogo Sun Group as Sous Chef at Southern Sun Hyde Park and was soon after promoted to Executive Sous Chef where he planned and was responsible for several highly visible events. When the opportunity arose to join the team at the Palazzo Hotel. Gareth jumped at the opportunity and was previously the Executive Sous chef at the Palazzo Hotel Monte Casino before moving across to Southern Sun Hyde Park as the new Executive Chef.
