What a treat dining at Clico Boutique Hotel. They have just turned 10 years old, and to celebrate they have just launched a brand new winter tasting menu – which is beyond compare. If you are looking for a 5 star, upmarket and totally classy venue to treat that someone special to a delicious meal, or even just for a night out, Clico is the place to be.
The renovations to the building are now complete, and the restaurant, which is beautifully cool in summer, and toasty warm in winter thanks to two fireplaces, is an experience second to none.
We enjoyed a delicious 6 course tasting menu, accompanied by wines for a variety of local wine farms. The food is beautifually crafted and I say crafted as the plating is superb, and looks almost too good to eat.
We started with a delicious roast tomato soup with a basil, mozarella tortellini which was paired with a Waterford Pecan Stream 2015 – the soup was tasty and the presentation oustanding.
We then had a Roast Vegetable Gnocci, paired with the Iona Sauvigon Blanc 2014, then melt in the mouth venison tartlets, paired with Lynx Blanc de Noir.
Sea bass with leeks and a Quando Pinot Noir followed, and then the most amazing Lamb Shoulder with a Creation Syrah.
We were almost to full for pudding, but both selected a Chefs Bleeding heart, with was a delicious baked pudding paired wonderfully with a de Grendel MCC.
This has certainly been one of our culinary highlights – highly recommended and worth a visit. Clico is also the perfect venue for intimate events and small weddings.
Prices for the 6 course tasting menu are R 500 per person, and the tasting menu with wine is R 620 per person.
