Sports & events tourism awards nominations open | The Planner

The Sports & Events Tourism Awards is aimed at recognizing events that contribute to tourism growth, destination marketing, sports & event legacies and local economic development.

Event owners, host cities & sponsors can nominate events by submitting impact assessment reports along with supporting documentation of their events  through the SETE Awards online submission forms.

An Evaluation Panel made up of event tourism experts and national government institutions will evaluate and adjudicate each submission and will shortlist the nominees that will be invited to the Awards Dinner to be held on the 26th October 2016 at The Protea Hotel Fire and Ice! in Menlyn, City of Tshwane.

The Award Categories

The Best International Event Contributing to Tourism Growth is the event that has contributed positively to the tourism economy of the city, province or country .

This will be measured by the number of foreign visitors who attended the event; global media coverage the event generated, foreign visitor spend in the destination and the number of foreign journalists the event attracted. To nominate an event click here

The Best Domestic Event Contributing to Tourism Growth is the event that has contributed positively to the tourism economy of the city, province or country.

This will be measured by the number of domestic visitors who attended the event; national media coverage the event generated, domestic visitor spend in the destination and the number of national journalists the event attracted. To nominate an event click here

The Best Event Improving the Brand Profile of the Destination is the event that has contributed positively to the improvement of the destination’s brand either nationally or globally.

This will be measured by the number of foreign and local media agencies and journalists who attended the event; the media coverage impact of the event; the use of social media platforms to promote the destination through the event and the extent to which the destination is associated with the event brand. The Best Event Leaving a Development Legacy is the event that has contributed to the development of sports or arts and cultural development of local communities of the destination.

This will be measured by the number of community members who benefited from the programme, the resources invested including cash and in-kind and the sustainability and long term benefits. To nominate an event click here

The Best Emerging Township Event Contributing to Local Economic Development is a new event that has the potential to contribute to local economic development.

This will be measured by the experience and capacity of the event organizer; number of visitors attracted to the event; media impact; partners secured; commercial viability of event and its impact on the local community. To nominate an event click here

The Best Event City / Province is the City / Province that has generated the most impact from events.

This will be measured by the number of events hosted in the city / province, the impact the events generated for the economy, the media impact and the return on investment from events supported. To nominate an event click here
