Tourism Month, a South African initiative, is celebrated annually in September with the aim of encouraging people to explore their own country and increase their awareness of the affordable, exciting and world class attractions available on their own doorsteps.
โWith Cape Townโs long history of being listed amongst the wordโs must-visit destinations, all South Africans should make the pilgrimage to the Mother City at least once in their lives,โ says Grant Sandham, Group Sales & Marketing Manager at Premier Hotels & Resorts. โHere, not only can they enjoy popular attractions like heading up Table Mountain, touring Robben Island and taking a ย tasting trip through the winelands, but also explore lesser-known delights like tucking into a braai at Mzoliโs in Gugulethu, going on a Cape Malay Cooking Safari in the Bo-Kaap and strolling along the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardensโ Boomslang โ a treetop canopy walkway. The centrally situated Premier Hotel Cape Manor offers visitors the perfect base from which to explore the Capeโs offerings.โ
โAnother one of South Africaโs crowning tourism jewels is the Kruger National Park,โ adds Sandham. ย โSituated in Mpumalanga, the province also contains other natural attractions like the Blyde River Canyon and Sabie Waterfalls as well as the historic Pilgrimโs Rest. These are all easily accessible from Premier Hotel The Winkler.โ
โWhile not traditionally a tourist destination, Pretoria is a sight to behold in spring when the Jacarandas turn the city purple,โ says Sandham.ย โAs one of South Africaโs capital cities, itโs not short on historical attractions such as the Union Buildings, Voortrekker Monument and Kruger House Museum. Diagonally opposite the Union Buildings, Premier Hotel Pretoria offers spectacular views of the Jacaranda City.โ
He continues โRichardโs Bay offers visitors entrance into Zululand, a land of exquisite beauty with a coastline of unspoilt beaches stretching 350km from the mouth of the Tugela River to the Mozambique border and incorporating the largest estuarine system in Southern Africa. Premier Hotel The Richards is situated close by the coast and just outside of the CBD, but is nearby enough for easy access when needed.โ
โOffering the best of both beach and bush is the Eastern Cape. These attractions are easily accessed from Mpongo Private Game Reserve with its variety of African wildlife, rolling hills, river valleys and lush surroundings,โ shares Sandham.
โWith this yearโs Tourism Month theme of โTourism For All โ Promoting Universal Accessibilityโ, there are Premier properties throughout the country offering accommodation at affordable prices and close to the countryโs numerous tourism attractions โ enabling everyone to enjoy South Africaโs sights,โ concludes Sandham.
