Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat | The Planner

Venue: Theatre on the Bay

Dates: 31 March – 8 April

From humble beginnings, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has gone on to become one of the most recognised musical productions worldwide; has won Tony, Olivier and Drama Desk Awards and has a place in The Guinness Book of Records for the world’s longest running touring musical. The first production in South African in the 1970’s made household names of Richard Loring (The Narrator), Alvon Collison (Pharaoh) and Bruce Millar, who stole everyone’s heart as Joseph.

The production in 2004/2005 was another first – the beginning of an on-going tradition of ‘bonsai’ musicals conceived by Pieter Toerien for audiences at his theatres in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Now it’s time, ten years later, to bring back to the stage a newly imagined production of this family favourite that still features all of the fun, light-hearted, magical songs like Any Dream Will Do, Close Every Door to Me and One More Angel in Heaven.

From the director of Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair the record-breaking Box Office hit, Evita and the critically and audience acclaimed Sunset Boulevard, Paul Warwick Griffin – the anticipated return season due to popular demand!

No price increases! A new 2017 season at 2016 prices.

With family packages and group reductions.

After box office smash-hit seasons in Johannesburg and Cape Town in 2016, you’ve asked us to bring it back in 2017!

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s first mega-hit, and a firm South African favouriteย returns in 2017 after the huge success of 2016, with as much fun, cheek, exuberance, colour, music, dance, high energy, wit, gags, quirkiness and dazzle as ever.

…in fact, “what it all boils down to, is that JOSEPH is an absolute blast!” The Citizen

Earl Gregory is radiant as Joseph, the role that launched his career in 2005 and for which he won the Naledi Award for Best Male Newcomer. Earl has gone on to perform in Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats and Sweeney Todd.

Audience favourite Jonathan Roxmouth (Sweeney Todd, The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Sunset Boulevard, A Handful of Keys, I’m Playing Your Song, etc) turns up the heat as Pharaoh, with his delicious take on Elvis. We welcome sensational songbird Nadine back to the stage in the role of the narrator. Nadine’s last role for Pieter Toerien was as Mary Magdelene in Jesus Christ Superstar.

Featuring Any Dream Will Do, Close Every Door To Me, One More Angel In Heaven and Go! Go! Joseph, you’ll find yourself humming along long after you’ve left the theatre.

With the 23-strong South African cast and a creative dream team, JOSEPH is “aย technicolour triumph” for the whole family to enjoy!
