Moontide Guest Lodge Wins Worldwide Acclaim | The Planner

Moontide Guest Lodge in Wilderness won worldwide acclaim recently when it was crowned World Luxury Lodge of the Year in the Luxury Travel Guide (LTG) Awards. The glittering awards ceremony took place in London, where Moontide was one of 155 finalists from all around the world, competing in 31 global categories.

The Luxury Travel Guide Awards recognise and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the affluent travel and tourism industry. Almost two million subscribers were invited to vote for the best places they have stayed around the world, and having won in the LTG Africa & Middle East Awards category, the judging panel, which included hospitality experts and several celebrity figures, voted Moontide Guest Lodge the outright winner.

On the banks of the Wilderness lagoon, 24km from George Airport, Moontide Guest Lodge is only two minutesโ€™ walk from pristine Wilderness beach. The four star graded guest lodge has elsewhere been heralded “the most romantic retreat in the Garden Route”, as well as “best value Garden Route accommodation” with eight individually styled cottages and rooms, each with private entrance and outdoor seating area. A birderโ€™s paradise, Moontide is shaded by 400-year-old Milkwood trees overlooking the lagoon to provide a tranquil and luxurious escape that provides excellent access to the attractions of South Africaโ€™s celebrated Garden Route.

Built in the 1920s, Moontide was one of the first residences in Wilderness. It was purchased in 1984 by the current owner, Maureen Mansfield, who restored the thatched homestead to its former glory, adding another house on the adjacent erven to accommodate her houseguests. In 1994 she opened Moontide to the public with just four rooms, and over time to meet increased demand, another four guest rooms have been added.

Moontide has a reputation for romance and several proposals have successfully been made here, and numerous nuptials celebrated in style. The venue seats up to 100 guests and is available for exclusive-use, with accommodation for 16 guests (maximum 24) included.

Rates include a generous breakfast, starting from R630 per person sharing (low season) to R930 per person sharing (high season) and R1150 per person sharing (peak season), per night.
