Sun International’s The Maslow has just marked its fifth anniversary in the same unassuming yet sophisticated and gracious style that has firmly entrenched its position as one of the best business hotels in South Africa. In five years, The Maslow has stacked up a number of prestigious awards and accolades which bear testimony to its premier service and facilities.
“It has really been five of the best for The Maslow. Not only have we established the hotel as one of the most respected in South Africa, recognised for exceptional service and facilities, but we have also entrenched The Maslow as an established ‘citizen’ in our community. From the outset, we have known that our success and sustainability depends on our ability to constantly deliver premium and value-adding services, quality facilities, and a food and beverage offering that acknowledges contemporary dining trends.
“At the same time, we must help build and maintain a sustainable community, contribute to the local economy, and promote a healthy environment. We take these obligations to heart.
“Product and services innovation will continue to receive increasing emphasis going forward to ensure that we remain relevant to our customers, and to ensure that we can continue contributing to the local economy as an active member of the tourism community,” says Ashwin Jose, General Manager at The Maslow.
The Maslow Hotel opened for business in January 2013 following a R250-million refurbishment of the hotel formally known as The Grayston. Situated in the heart of Sandton’s business district – home to top investment banks, financial institutions, the Gautrain station and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange – The Maslow Hotel offers some of the best corporate facilities in Sandton, including complimentary high speed internet access throughout the hotel, 13 meeting rooms, a vast conference centre with a multi divisible ballroom and auditorium, techno gym, the unique Wayfarer Lounge, and the award-winning Lacuna Bistro.
The contemporary design and urban vibe of the public areas, guest rooms and services at The Maslow Hotel are inspired by Sandton’s business culture. The Lacuna Bistro and Bar’s menu reflects the ethos of the hotel, all the spaces are interconnected and integrated with the outdoors.
Overlooking a tranquil oasis garden, Lacuna Bistro and Bar at The Maslow Hotel has that X-factor; that something special that has kept it at the pinnacle of Sandton’s selection of restaurants since it opened.
Superbly-located right at Sandton’s core, guests don’t have to pay for parking, and there is a free shuttle service to the Gautrain station and Sandton City Mall every 15 minutes. Guests can enjoy tapas’ style plates as well as local, domestic and international draught and bottled beer. A select South African Wine List and specialty cocktails can be enjoyed inside or outside on the terrace.
The Bistro has been acknowledged with a Diamond Award in the annual Diners Club Winelists Awards. To proudly display a Diners Club Winelist Award in their window is not an act of vanity, it is an invitation to discerning patrons to come in and enjoy a taste of greatness.

Every room has extra-length beds, blackout curtains, a rain shower, a workstation and complimentary uncapped Wi-Fi. Total darkness can be achieved in every room, whether night or day. When it comes to community initiatives, The Maslow has a focus on sustainability. The hotel has a number of programmes in place in line with this emphasis on contributing to a sustainable community and environment. These include responsible water management through a borehole, eco-car wash facilities and irrigation cycles, composting wet waste, use of LED globes throughout the hotel, recycling initiatives and environmentally friendly methods of disposing of chemicals and pesticides. The Maslow also features a rooftop garden where herbs and vegetables are grown for use in the kitchens.
