IMEX 2021 announces its cancellation | The Planner

The IMEX Group has announced that IMEX 2021 has been cancelled. The show is a global event that attracts exhibitors and buyers from over 150 countries. It is therefore reliant on open international travel routes which, as a second wave sweeps around the world, are currently unpredictable and unreliable.

“We still believe wholeheartedly that a resurgence will come, but sadly we do not believe it will happen in time for us to deliver a strong and successful event in May.”

“When we were compelled to cancel IMEX in Frankfurt and IMEX America last year we hoped 2021 would see the early recovery of the industry and the IMEX shows. We still believe wholeheartedly that a resurgence will come, but sadly we do not believe it will happen in time for us to deliver a strong and successful event in May,” write Ray Bloom and Carina Bauer, Chairman and CEO of the IMEX Group respectively, in their press announcement.

They add, “In the meantime, we remain committed to value creation. We’ll be working with industry partners on digital activations and experiences that deliver on our mission of uniting and advancing the business events industry – doing everything we can to educate, innovate and help you to make powerful connections with the right people.”

IMEX describes itself as the show “that innovates, inspires and presents new opportunities for the global meetings industry”. The 2021 event was due to take place in at Messe Frankfurt in Frankfurt, Germany from 25-27 May.

IMEX America in Las Vegas is still scheduled to go ahead as planned from 9-11 November 2021, while the 20th anniversary edition of IMEX in Frankfurt in 2022 (26-28 April).
