In a significant boost to its status as Africa’s tourism hub, Nairobi has been chosen to host the Africa Youth in Tourism Innovation Summit and Challenge (AYTIS) for the years 2025, 2026, and 2027. This prestigious Pan-African summit is set to advance the growth of young, innovative entrepreneurs within the tourism sector, empowering them to transform the industry across the continent.
Following the success of the 2024 edition held in Windhoek, Namibia, which welcomed over 500 delegates and 300 entrepreneurs, Nairobi will be the stage for this pivotal event in the coming years. The summit attracted industry leaders, government officials, and tourism innovators, providing a platform to collaborate and showcase Africa’s rising tourism potential.
Tourism Events Advisory and Management Services Africa (TEAMS Africa), a partnership between industry professionals Barry Clemens, Joram Mwinamo, and Håvar Bauck, will oversee the upcoming events. The dates and venue for the 2025 summit will be confirmed later this month.
Innovation Driving African Tourism
Speaking on the importance of the summit, Håvar Bauck said:
“Tourism is poised to become a powerful driver of economic growth and job creation across Africa. Through AYTIS, we aim to shine a spotlight on the young innovators shaping the future of African tourism. By supporting these entrepreneurs, we can reshape the sector’s narrative and create new opportunities for development.”
Bauck also emphasized the need to broaden the perception of African tourism:
“It’s crucial that Africa goes beyond its traditional image of wildlife and beaches to highlight its vibrant cities, rich culture, and diverse experiences. AYTIS will foster this shift, attracting a new generation of travelers and innovators.”
A Homecoming for AYTIS
For Barry Clemens, bringing AYTIS to Kenya is deeply meaningful:

Looking to the Future
Africa Tourism Partners (ATP), led by renowned industry expert Kwakye Donkor, will continue as the event’s convenor, building on the summit’s impact. With plans to attract 800 participants in 2025, the goal is to expand opportunities for networking, collaboration, and learning. AYTIS has previously been hosted by Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, and Ghana in partnership with UN Tourism and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), highlighting its Pan-African importance.
