Phishing scams often involve fake Google ads and counterfeit websites designed to deceive hotel staff into disclosing login credentials. Once these details are stolen, hackers gain access to booking records and personal guest information, placing the hotel at significant risk.

To combat these phishing attacks, Metisware recommends several key security practices:

Frequent password changes reduce the likelihood of unauthorized access. Strong passwords should combine letters, numbers, and special characters, and never be reused across different sites. - Be Cautious of Fake URLs
Staff should avoid using search engines to access login pages, which may lead to fake websites. Bookmarking legitimate URLs helps to avoid falling for these scams. - Suspicious Emails
Employees should be trained to identify phishing emails. Verifying email addresses and contacting the sender directly in case of doubts can prevent falling victim to email scams. - Monitor Outbound Emails
Hoteliers should track email activity to detect unauthorized reservation confirmations, which may signal a breach. - Firewalls and Antivirus Software
Regularly updated firewalls and antivirus programs help detect and prevent malicious activities.
