With the industry celebrating Global Exhibitions Day on June 4, 2025, an independent index for the most engaged expos and trade shows on social media has been launched, using metrics and data extracted from public profiles on Facebook.
The ExpoX Index aims to create a barometer of how organisers are engaging their target audience pre, during and post their respective events through storytelling and updates.
Gerrit Davids, MD of Gerom Media, says the ExpoX Winter Edition is the first in a series of indices designed to measure how event organisers engage their audiences on social media as a crucial channel for marketing before, during, and after events.
He notes that sponsors are also increasingly asking for social media engagement metrics over reach when considering partnerships.
The inaugural edition saw the Mining Indaba in a tie with WTM Africa as the Gold Champions in the business-to-business section, and the Rand Show crowned as the champion in the business-to-consumer section, respectively.

The ExpoX Summer edition will be released during November 2025 for expos and trade shows held during the second part of the year, and both indices will be amalgamated into the ExpoX Most Engaged Social Media Awards.
How the Awards were determined
Data for these listed Facebook Pages was extracted via a special auditing platform, and no entries were called for. Essentially, we have created an index of the most engaged Facebook Pages in this sector and decided to award the best-performing pages with recognition for their efforts on social media.
