August 2012: The name of Protea Hotel Vineyards Estate, located in the Tyger Valley area in Cape Towns northern suburbs, has been changed to Protea Hotel Durbanville.
Protea Hospitality Group Director of Sales, Marketing and Revenue, Danny Bryer, said the renaming had come about because Protea Hotel Durbanville was stronger in terms of positioning the hotel from a location perspective.
The hotel opened in June 2011.
A number of large corporates are located in Cape Towns northern suburbs and in terms of conferencing and business travel, renaming the hotel will give a clearer indication of its central location in this area Bryer said.
Only 20 minutes from Cape Town International Airport, the hotel is surrounded by the vineyards of the DAria Wine Estate and is a very popular meetings, conference and corporate travel hotel.
The hotels location lends itself to decor that blends harmoniously with its vineyard surrounds.
It has 93 rooms that are a mixture of traditional hotel rooms, one bedroom and two bedroom apartments.
